Redesign of the Dnevnik news program of the Croatian television station Nova

Together with the architectural studio Veech x Veech, we redesigned the news program of the Croatian television station Nova. The concept is based on a close connection between architecture and graphics through circular geometry, derived from the Nova station logo and the letter D – the initial letter of the news program DNEVNIK. Radially cut segments of the circle are integrated into the studio architecture, creating a harmonious whole with a visual component.

Radial animation, which moves back in time, represents a recapitulation of the day’s main events. Animation evoking the flow of time is also used for subtitles, dividing the space into a textual and visual part. The shape of the letter D determines the characteristically rounded shape of the infographic bars. All bars stem from a single animated principle. A graphic element – slider, both opens and closes the bar, indicating a change in its content.

The news jingle system is based on radial animation, depicting the initial letter of the program name on a clean colored background, specific to the genre – NEWS, SPORT, WEATHER.

We created a set of pictograms for graphic schemes, drawn on a uniform grid.

The genre color determines the tone of the newsroom and graphic elements. The space features a generous LED wall, displaying an additional style-forming element. Scaling of information such as sports lineups on the field or a fully animated weather overview is enabled by a responsive pin.
