Two programs – Two styles – One layout

Canal+ Sport approached us with a brief to design two programs dedicated to Premier League football. The first is a live commentary broadcast with studio and guests called MatchTime. The second is a talk show recapping the last round of the Premier League and is called Premier Club.
We have visually linked the two shows with typography and layout. In contrast, we juxtaposed the shows’ jingles to match the shows’ different natures and content.

Premier Club takes place in a studio styled like a football dressing room. The clubs’ jerseys are arranged in the current Premier League order. The title refers to the exclusive nature of the dressing room – the club.

The title refers to the exclusive nature of the dressing room - the club. Film like jingle introduces the viewer to a space reserved for professionals.

The program’s pace follows a talk show format; therefore, the jingle and prelims are relatively longer. The infographic is in a more subtle color scheme, linking Premier Club and MatchTime.

The minimalist typographic form of MatchTime was born out of the need to identify the programme, which broadcasts Premier League matches but has its own graphic identity and equipment. The aim was not to create entirely new visual elements to compete with the Premier League lion motif but to match it with dynamic animated typography.

The variable font thus made it possible to animate the dynamics of a given team’s game dominance. The logo animation conveys an ambivalent perception of time – for the leading team, the remaining time looks extended, while for the team trying to catch up, the time is shortened.
