One strike to change it all

For Canal+ Sport , we have designed the visual style for the WTA Tour tennis series. The style is based on a combination of black and white atmospheric imagery and bold accent graphics based on the morphology of the WTA letters. The design set includes a promo spot, two jingles and graphic assets.

The diagonal geometry of the logo has its analogy in the architectural elements of the tennis complex at Štvanice, where the promo spot for Come On! takes place.

The stadium was built in 1985 on the occasion of the women’s Fed Cup final between Czechoslovakia and the USA (with Martina Navratilova). This happened on the island where the history of Czech sport was shaped. Today, the venue is a training centre for Czech players, but it is no longer used for the big races.

The genius loci of this legendary place, with a memorial wall commemorating the achievements of Czech tennis since 1920, is captured in a black and white spot in the form of a portrait of a young player in a moment of concentration before an important match. Through a flashback, she reflects on her daily hard training at Štvanice, from which she draws strength and confidence for the upcoming match.

It takes the distinctive purple color from the official WTA brand and adds a reflective yellow-green. Even the programme elements are based on the morphology of the WTA letters. The T shape defines the head-to-head statistics layout.

The match studio theme song has minimalist graphics, capturing a pivotal tennis exchange – the Match Point. The kinetic energy of the ball is transformed into a dynamic animation of the WTA’s morphology. Another project for Canal+ Sport
