We created an experimental short film representing the Czech Republic for Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The main theme of this international exhibition was the Fruits of Civilization. The idea was to showcase the achievements of civilizations on a global scale. We embraced this topic and focused on three areas: the natural, cultural, and technological heritage of the Czech Republic. We felt the urge to emphasize that our country is and always has been a place where people appreciate a fresh and individualistic approach. Original ideas are recognized, valued, and put into fruition.
We divided the film into 14 chapters depicting the 14 regions of the Republic along with its growth, landscape, history, and remarkable figures. Each region demonstrates cultural and natural opulence and the way manufacturing and technological development considers long-standing local traditions. We intended to show how Czechs thoughtfully reestablish their surroundings while trying to balance natural and urban landscapes. The combination of their diverging factors and mutual potential induces a harmonious symbiosis.
