Innovative Czech Technology at EXPO 2020

A transformer that turns a dry desert into a blooming oasis.
An immersive installation with an animated explainer video presents the working principle of the Czech invention SAWER and turned the main hall of the Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2020 in Dubai into one of the most visited exhibitions.

What does the SAWER technology do?

We presented the technology through five key words, whose initial letters form the acronym SAWER. Each word describes one of the core principles of how the entire mechanism works. At the heart of it are the elements: Sun, Air, Water, Earth, and Resources.

S
Sunlight is converted into energy via solar panels, making the unit fully self-sufficient.

A
Water molecules from the air are extracted using unique technology and used to humidify the surrounding environment.

W
The humid air is cooled and transformed into liquid, which is collected in tanks. Added minerals and nutrients from a photobioreactor enrich the water and prepare it for irrigation.

E
A subsurface system delivers the enriched water with nutrients directly to plant roots, where symbiotic fungi help retain moisture where it’s needed most.

R
Grass, crops, and trees can then grow and form new habitats even in desert landscapes.
